Sony USB Camera (w/ Memory Stick) How to Mount

Hi,

I am running SuSE 9.2 on an older Dell Dimension. The Dell has two 1.1 USB ports and I'm attempting to mount the camera to pull pictures off.

I undstand, in general, that I need to see where the device is placed in /dev and then edit fstab accordingly. Finally, I need to mount it.

Problem is, I don't know where in dev the device resides.

Here's some dmesg output:

usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using address 2
usb 1-2: Product: Sony DSC
usb 1-2: Manufacturer: Sony

That's ALL that's listed in there for the device.

Where can I begin? ;-)

Cheers,

Mike Whalen

I got it to work by using the boot option ACPI=OFF.

Why does that fix it?

hi,

the ACPI=off business is strange isn't it?...

Anyway, I use a Sony DSC digital camera and have found it very helpful to set the camera to 'PTP' (Picture Transfer Protocol) mode, then use digiKam to connect directly to the camera - it saves mucking about mounting etc.. I'm a big fan of digiKam - if you install the plugin pack, the program offers some really good functionality!

I don't believe this camera supports PTP.

How can I find out?

hi,

i'm using a DSC-P7, so yours might differ. On mine, from the setup menu on the camera, it's possible to switch USB mode from 'Normal' to 'PTP' (you might have to hunt around in the menu).

cheers!

Yeah, nothing like that in the menus. Perhaps there's a firmware upgrade...

Well, there is. But I don't see that it contains anything to turn on PTP. Perhaps it's not available in hardware.

Anyway, no ACPI is okay... I guess.
