Question USB Memory Stick/Sony Clie

Hi all,

Anyone know how I can mount the usb memory stick in my Sony Clie so I can add/delete ebooks? Trying to get KPilot configured is an exercise in futility and all I really need anyway is memory stick access. I had this ability in Lycoris and it was great (unfortunately just about everything else about Lycoris kinda stinks) so thought I'd see if I could get working in slack which is now my only OS on the computer.

I have the 2.4.20 kernel compiled with all USB options including USB Mass Storage device turned on. (not moduled just ON -- i know big kernel but module installing/loading still has me completely baffled).

Oh btw in Lycoris the way it worked was I just tapped on the "MSImport" icon on my Clie and it was then accessible as a USB mass storage device (everything automounted in Lycoris which is also baffling how to do not that it matters I do fine with the kwikdisk program for cd mounting).

My /var/log/messages shows the device listed as: (if this helps)

Jan 5 19:45:38 spiderman kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:07.3-2.3, assigned address 5
Jan 5 19:45:38 spiderman kernel: Manufacturer: Sony
Jan 5 19:45:38 spiderman kernel: Product: Sony PEG Mass Storage
Jan 5 19:45:38 spiderman kernel: scsi1 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Jan 5 19:45:39 spiderman kernel: USB IRQ received for device on host 1

I use a Sony memory stick reader/writer to transfer photos from my digital camera. After I insert the memory stick I can usually just mount the device using /dev/sda1.

My device is picked up by the hub.c driver. I use modules for it and it requires usb-core, usb-uhci, and usb-storage modules.

I will usually see a message using the "dmesg" command that references the sda1 device. Then I just mount it as -> mount /dev/sda1 /photos

Of course the directory /photos has to exist. You might want to use /ebooks or something else. If your system has other scsi disk drives then the device might change to sdb1 or sdc1, etc.

Hope it helps.

Got it! Clicked the MSImport button and rebooted which then changed Clie's status to "Connected to PC" and was able to mount it:

mount -t auto /dev/sda1 /mnt/usbstick

should be able to do all the modifications like I did the zip drive to make it mountable/unmountable/rw for my usernames now.

This is unbelievable!!! Every and I mean EVERY app I needed from windows is now handled in my 100% Slackware Linux computer now!! The KwikDisk utility is set to mount my cdrw, zip and now my USB stick in my Sony Clie AND it will even open up automatically the /mnt folder upon mount click!

Excalibur, you've done it again friend thanks a TON!!

Think I'll celebrate by beating up some Giants in EverQuest via winex now for a bit before calling it a night/morning.
