Unhappy Slow Nforce2 ide chipset

My Nforce2 chipset on my Gigabyte K7 Triton GA-NFORCE2 Pro mother board has a really slo transfer rate even with hdparm configured with

hdparm -d 1 -c 1 -u 1 -X69 /dev/hda

The test reads back thus:

Read= 1300mb in 0.60sec = 600mbs
read-buffer = 64mb in 3.00sec

Can anyone elp to speed up the issue?
it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

What distribution and what kernel are you using? You need to have amd74xx support (called "AMD and Nvidia chipset support" under IDE/ATA kernel configuration) either loaded as a module or compiled statically in the kernel.

I am currently using mandrake 9.2 with kernel 2.4.26
the moduale is already built into the kernel.

This problem also occurs in Fedora Core 1 thats also with a 2.4.26 kernel

Sorry should have been more specific
