Slackky and sound


Yet another question......sorry

I cannot get sound working on slackware.

Im using an onbaord SIS 7018 card

Coulnt find anything really on alsa.

and searched ealier posts but they were for things like RH etc, and it doesnt work on slackky

any ideas people??

found this out on the web...
seems like its core is much like the trident, and apparently uses the same driver. check the link for more info and good luck.

The card, at least most revisions, work with the trident module, unfortunately 2.4.18 which shipped with Slack 8.1 has a very old driver that doesn't cover some of the newer revs of the chipset. I got it to work cleanly on an Epox board with 2.4.20. If:

modprobe trident

Doesn't get it, try upgrading kernels, there's even a 2.4.19 .pgk at any given slackware mirror if you want to try that instead of compiling on your own. Also, remember to chmod /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer after you get the module to load, usual Slackware tricks...
