Skype/Logitech USB Headseat
After reading a write-up in Linux Magazine Online about skype, I decided to go out and buy a Logitech Premium USB headset 300 (recommended by the author) so I could give skype a try. However, I'm having some issues getting things working.
I'm running PCLinuxOS (on a desktop and a laptop). Here is my problem. When I plug the headset into a usb port and then run dmesg to verify that the system recognizes it, it is properly identified as a Logitech USB headset. Everything looks good so far. Also, looking in the /proc directory I see /asound/Headset, which according to the author of the article indicates that the headset is recognized as an ALSA compatible sound device. Again, so far so good.
Next I start Kmix to see if I can control the headset settings, but I only see my normal controls. I then start Skype and login. I go to tools/options/headset and /dev/dsp1 is available, so I select it. I then have my buddy give me a call. I see the incoming call, but when I try to answer I get an error message stating there was a problem with the sound device. I then call him. He answers, but I hear him through my speakers, not the headset.
I then reboot with the headset plugged in to the usb. I now hear sound through the headset and kmix displays controls for the headset (but only the set, not the other sound device). So I start skype again and log in. This time no sound devices show under tools/options/headset. When I try to place or receive a call, I get the error about my sound device.
Anybody have any idea what might be happening, and what steps I need to take to get this working? I really don't want to have to use Windows (which it works fine on) to use Skype.
