scsi megaraid controller card

i have installed a scsi megariad express 500 controller card. the card is a 32 bit 33mhz card. i put it in a compaq proliant 5500 server. when i boot into the operating system, linux redhat 8.0 i run into the following problem:

it says on boot:

scsi: found megaraid scsi controller card
scsi: enabling 64 bit support

the operating system freezes right here. it wont boot any further. does anybody know why it would say 64 bit support if it is a 32 bit card? or why it would be freezing at this point? please help i have been at this for awhile now. thanks alot.
