Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

scanner problem in suse 9.1, installer always choses the wrong driver

I went into yast and chose my scanner from the list, a canon lide20 and do the scanner test. I just see a blank white screen in the test screen. If I chose finish anyway, I goto the suse hardware tool, and it displays my scanner as being a different canon model than the one I chose, and no matter what I do it always ends up with that scanner. What should I do? I'm guessing there might be an autoconfig option I must turn off somewhere that I have not found yet. Thanks

The important question is, does the scanner work? I don't know Suse, but when I used Mdk, my scanner was identifed by a different name but worked fine. Some hardware recognition programs might identify devices differently.

hey, yes, the scanner does move and scan the image when running the test, so it's actually doing something but no image is displayed, just a white sheet where an image is supposed to be, and no matter what I do no matter which model I install the scanner under as, suse always keeps this one scanner model.
