Scanner and New USB Hub not working ?

I have been using my canoscan 650 without any problem in mandriva 2006. I have used it on two hubs w/ no problems at all. Today I installed a new DLINK DUB-H7 and will not work. The hub shows up as 'null' in my harddrake list ? I have my external HDD hook to it and it works fine. no problems. scanner will not work. bypass the hub and kooka and xsane are happy ?? During system startup it say something like. status of usb hub failed (error=71). Sorry for long post.

Upon futher research it appears my hub is backward compatible with V 1.1. The problem is if you attach a v 2.0 device first it will be in v 2.0 mode. if you attach a v 1.1 device it will be in v 1.1 mode. But, not both at the same time ? never heard of this but, I read a review on newegg.com that stated this ??
