Hi !
Audio device [0403]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA) [1002:4383] S
gives sound, but don't recognize any mic, and there are two ports.
Why that mystery? I have up to no experience in this domain. At least I didn't recognize my model in this list (http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Main) for ATI, AMD or INTEL.
Does a proprietary driver even exist for this ?

Thanks for your help. Poor noob here, sniff.
A 'poor noob' that's been using Linux for two years doesn't quite add up. Read the "Question Guidelines" link in my posting signature...you don't give us any details about your hardware (laptop? destkop? Brand/model? Integrated sound or part of external sound card? etc...), tell us what version/distro of Linux you're using, or anything that you've done/tried so far. Since you see two ports did you try them both? Make sure they were BOTH unmuted and the input volume turned up??
Based on what little you posted, that card is fairly old. There are MANY solutions posted, but they differ for different versions, and most aren't even needed anymore, since support was added some time ago. If you'd like a proprietary driver, you should check Intel's or AMD's website for one.

There is a driver for windows, here http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList..._ati_rs690.exe but I really have no clue on what to do with this exe, wine doesn't seem to succeed running it completely. But it does unfold what was an archive. Maybe there might be a way with the things inside ? Can you look into it and tell, maybe ?
i just noticed from your post #3 that you have 2 sound cards.
are you even sure which one is being used?
you can make sure and/or change it with 'alsamixer', press F6.
in alsamixer, you can also check if some of the controls pertaining to recording might be muted etc.
my amixer output is much longer, but that might be because you're using pulseaudio.
so please also check pulseaudio mixer settings.
Ok, I did play with alsamixer before asking for help. Of course, that much I could read, and reset in no time if need be. And there is no card unmuted right now. No change. On the SB card has capture devices, all are on, no changes.
