SATA II & Core 2 Duo - Compatable with Linux?

I've just upgrade my PC using an ASUS P5B M/B 2 x SATA hard drives and a 6400 Core 2 Duo CPU..
I wanted to partition all my drives first so I tried to boot my GParted live cd. It booted the CD but I get a Kernel panic when it trys to load the SATA modual. Same happen when I use Ubuntu.

Any ideas?

Cheers
Steve

Depends on the SATA chipset, the CPU is x86-compatible so anything will run on it but support for your SATA controller is a different story. I have a Nforce4 SATA 3G controller that works fine, check the HCL here or Google the exact model number to see if others have anything to say about it.
