red hat 7.3 dual processors

Ok ive searched the forum already on this topic and it answered alot of my questions.
Ive already compiled the newest SMP version kernel. When I "cat /proc/cpuinfo"

I get a different read out then when i boot to a normal kernel. This is what i see
"
processor : 0
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 3
model name : Pentium II (Klamath)
stepping : 4
cpu MHz : 299.754
cache size : 512 KB
physical id : 0
siblings : 1
fdiv_bug : no
hlt_bug : no
f00f_bug : no
coma_bug : no
fpu : yes
fpu_exception : yes
cpuid level : 2
wp : yes
flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov mmx
bogomips : 598.01
"

The other kernel doesnt list the "siblings 1" does this mean theres another processor? How else can i tell there are two processors running? Thanks!

On a Dual i686 2.4.19, doing "grep /proc/cpuinfo -e ^processor" yields one line per processor, and "grep /var/log/messages -e "Init.*CPU.[0-9]" yields one "Initializing CPU" per processor.
You forgot to include what kernel are you running, I'm guessing the "siblings" stuff is because you run one of those hyperthreading kernels.
Does it show any info it's initializing all CPU's in /var/log/messages or any logfile?

im using kernel
2.4.20-18.8smp

and
" grep /proc/cpuinfo -e ^processor"
produces
"processor : 0"

The /var/log/messages file only shows initializing processor #0.

So i assume its only recognizing one processor?
Any ideas?
thanks

Does the BIOS recognize on boot you have two processors? If not, post the Mobo and processor specs, if you're overclocking, etc etc basically any details that could help someone here help you.

The machine is

IBM intellistation M pro 6898 (ull have to wait till i get home for motherboard specs )

No overclocking, just 2 pII 300mhz chips.

Bios doesnt seem to be very comprehensive. It has a processor thing in the bios but never mentions Dual just says "processor support [enabled]." Pherhaps i need to update BIOS? But im not sure i can with such an old mother board. Ok ill post exact motherboard when i get home. thanks
