Well I just got finished writing a huge post but when I clicked submit it didn't submit it because I had posted a url to the site that contained information about my problem! Now I have to type it all over again.
Anyways, I'm not entirely new to linux but I'm basically a newbie. Last week my Windows XP computer rebooted abruptly and during the boot I got a ntfs.sys error. My OS is on a raid-0 array consisting of two 120GB drives. I looked around for a solution and I found a site that suggested this (url left out because of forum rules):
1. Boot Knoppix
2. Open Shell
3. Type "su" and press enter. (this makes you root)
4. Type "cfdisk" and press enter.
5. You will see all your partitions on your hard disk. They are e.g. hda1 (probably your C
, hda5 (D
... Check those where filesystem is NTFS.
6. Write these down! You should then have a list like: hda1, hda5, hda6
7. Exit cfdisk.
8. Now type: "ntfsfix /dev/hda1" and press enter.
9. Do this and replace hda1 with all occurences on your list.
10. Close Knoppix and reboot.
Windows will boot up and it might take quite a long time while the screen is black. As long as the bluescreen does not come up, everything is okay.
If Windows finally starts okay, you should be done
Now I tried this, but I don't know how to get my raid-o to be recognized in knoppix. How do I get my raid-0 array to be recognized? Also is this really a good method of fixing my problem? I really need to get this fixed because I need my computer and my data for many things. Please help, any ideas on how to fix my problem would be greatly appreciated.
PS: Even if I could get my raid to show up under knoppix I could probably burn my data off, so even that would be a good solution.
