Problems with install new 200gb HD

Hey. i have a problem to install a new maxtor 200gb on slackware 9. When i bootup linux, the hd is finding but when is comes to "Partition check:" the load is stoping.

Partition Check:
hda: hda hda2 < hda 5 >
hdb: <- here the bootup stops!

The mothercard is for a old celeron 366mhz. Ithink the bios is from 1997. The bios is not finding the disk. I have try with a 80gb. Bios is not finding that disk to but linux find it and i can bootup and use the disk. I use a 2,5gb disk for system disk.

Hi,
Some things you might check are:

Make sure the primary slave is enabled in CMOS setup of your BIOS.

Since this is a new harddrive, if it has not been partitioned yet, and if linux is trying to mount it, I think that would cause a problem. If the /etc/fstab file has a line that starts /dev/hdb , you might comment that line out, reboot, and see if that makes a difference.

might check if your bois supports a hard drive that big, that might be causing the problems, unless your using a pci ide card or something like that.
