Question seagate 200GB

Hi,
I have a question about where to search for the problem
with my Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB ST3200822A.
It turns up in my Debian Linux 3.0 Kernel 2.2.20-idepci as only
124GB ( it's to much off to find it ok).

My question is should I look for the problem in my
HP Vectra VLi8s BIOS?
or in the Linux Kernel and try to find a new driver?

I hope someone else have had the same problem (and solved it!)
and share his/her knowledge with me.
Best Regards /TordYvel

it's probably the old kernel. the kernel doesn't really care much about the bios settings anyway.

Like Whansard said... it is an old BIOS, but flashing it isn't worth it. The kernel option you're looking for, which I do not doubt Debian left out because they're cowards when it comes to stable is:

CONFIG_IDE_SLIDE, or if you like make menuconfig, its:
IDE, ATA and ATAPI Block devices->
[ ] Auto-Geometry Resizing support

Knoppix's kernel has it by default, and I think you can apt-get that if you don't want to sit through a compile. Most leave it out: slackware, Fedora, Mandrake... SuSe, Gentoo's genkernel will build it out... Knoppix is about the only one I know that sticks that in.

Cheers,
