This is getting a little out of my depth. Installing more than one set of drivers at the same time really managed to screw things up here, it would seem, and I'm not very familiar with Debian, Ubuntu and their derivatives.
Perhaps try downloading the latest driver from the AMD website and using the --buildpkg option to build packages for Linux Mint. I remember doing that in the past when using Ubuntu.
Download the installer, run it with the --listpkg option and it will list all distributions that it can create packages for. Then run the installer with '--buildpkg blah-blah'.
It worked!!! Plus, I don't have 4 different ATI Catalyst's in the Control Center. So I'll have to remember that for next time. Deactivate fglrx, delete xorg.conf, reinstall the ATI auto installer. Thanks so much for all your help!
