Hi I am having some problems with my display properties. I have an ATI RV280 5961 graphics card. I am also pretty sure that I have the latest drivers from ATI as well is. I would appreciate if someone would help me configure my display properties so that they will run smooth and use 3D support. I am also new so things may have to be broken down for me. If there is anything else that someone needs please ask.
What are your current display properties, and what do you want to change them to? I'm assuming that the resolution may be lower than you'd like, and if so, knowing what it is right now vs. what you want to set it to would be very helpful. Additionally, what exact monitor are you using.
Lastly, can you open a console session (ie, the command line interface) and post the output from running 'lspci' and 'lsmod' (no quotes) which will list (respectfully) the set of PCI devices your system recognizes and the kernel modules your system has loaded.
Thanks for the reply! Im using an older Compaq MV740 color monitor. What Id like to do is have my display settings optimized to be able to run compiz fusion. However; if that cannot be done then I would like to have my display setting configured at the best setting with what I am using. One of the main reasons for this post is the fact that I am using an ATi card, and they do not mix well with my SuSE distribution. Why current properties are as follows: (via the lsmod command) Also what is the command to list my hardware im running SuSE 10.3. thanks.
Im having trouble with the commands. I cannot seem to run any commands to get system info. I have been running the commands that were suggested in root as well as user.
You can also run glxinfo from a terminal to see if direct rendering is enabled.
BTW, I'm using an ATI based on R300 and the Xorg (OSS) driver works fine.
Your monitor (apparently) is capable of 1280x1024 max resolution (which is pretty good).
It would be helpful to list your xorg.conf file (which is in the /etc/X11 directory) You can open it whatever editor you like, then just copy and paste
OK - the max resolution you've specified in your xorg.conf file is 1152x864, but you could add 1280x1024. You do have direct rendering enabled. so other than operating at a slightly lower resolution than possible, it appears that things look pretty good for your system. Note that you can use "Ctrl +" and "Ctrl -" to toggle between the resolutions
Thanks, Ultimately I want to be able to run compiz-fusion, and it seemed as though my Ati card was not going to cut it.I have reviewed and tried most of the documentation on how to set it up with an ATI card. Do you have any suggestions on being able to do that? Also I am having trouble with my SWAT configuration as well. I have posted the question in the networking topic. Maybe you can help me there as well thanks for the help.
