enable the following modules with "make gconfig", "make xconfig" or "make menuconfig":

<M> Classical IP over ATM[*] Do NOT send ICMP if no neighbour
<M> LAN Emulation (LANE) support
<M> Multi-Protocol Over ATM (MPOA) support
<M> RFC1483/2684 Bridged protocols[*] Per-VC IP filter kludge

<M> Support for USB
<M> Alcatel Speedtouch USB support (NEW)
Replace existing driver with patched driver located in this directory
/usr/src/linux-2.6.8.1-custom/drivers/usb/misc
Compile kernel:
make
make modules
make modules_install
make install
In that page,it says somewhere about some modules that have to be compiled and installed...
Are these modules necessary for the modem to only work or also be detected at first?
Also,at which step do i install my original driver(not the patched one)?
Before or after i install my kernel and modules and reboot my machine?(i suppose before...)
Any help would be higly appreciated...
Thanks a lot.
law-order; u r correct which u didnot mention in original post or may have misunstood. never the less by all means get linux to id,
locate & install device then see if it preforms to ur expectations, if not then config it to ur specs if still not satisfied then may be driver may help. only as last resort. question? does os recoqnize
modem? that is where i suggest doing search via google.com/custom for guidance, also use LQO,s HOWTO,s
law_order; apperently os system not recognizing device or it is not within that directory . it may be easier to let system find & recognize the usb port along with the modem. seems doing it manually is not getting it done. advice take time to read some of howto,s to ease that without problems. the more u learn & knowledge the easier it becomes. also take time to feel & control
the way linux works by working the basic config of hardware & tweeking software, slow & easy, step by step to avoid mistakes which will cause more problems than u may shake a stick at it.
read the readme,s ,the manuals that came with the cd bundles,
lots of vital information in them.
