problem configuring logitech v20 USB speakers

Hi all,

I am running RH with kernel 2.4.18-14. And have been unable to get my Logitech USB speakers to work.

Here's the steps I tried so far: On a reboot with the speakers plugged in, the RH configuration tool correctly identified the type of speakers I had connected, and said that it had configured them and the soundcard (I guess this is the soundcard inside the speakers.) But I was unable to hear any sound through the speakers, and mplayer gave me a message that there was a problem with /dev/dsp. Also my soundcard stopped working with headphones plugged into it.

So on reboot, I unplugged the speakers and when the RH configuration tool came up, I selected the option to remove the speaker configuration, and now at least my sound card is working.

I'm not sure exactly where to go from here, as I am a newbie and much of the usb information I found was over my head. I figured I'd see if anyone here could point me in the right direction.

Maybe I need to install alsa drivers or modules to get this working? I found suggestions to use alsaconf, and to check /proc/asound/cards for the speaker drivers, but I have neither of these. Anyone want to explain when to use alsa, and if I need it, what I need to do to set it up?
