I have been using ubuntu 8.10 for some months now on my IBM thinkpad lenovo x41. suddenly my sound just went off without warning sometimes back.

anyone with a solution??help urgently needed.

do you have another distro/operating installed to see if its a Ubuntu thing?

try running a live cd/dvd that is not Ubuntu and see if it has the same problems.
--if so, it may be hardware or bios (firmware)

2) Can you reproduce it by playing a certain sound or video file....then report what it is....and a link to it as it may be the file and not Ubuntu.

3) Please advise whether you have up-to-date software and new kernels and what software you are using when you experienced problems

is it all multimedia software or only one or two...and name the culprits.
