Possible defective ATI Radeon 9600 Pro

Hi everyone,

I just bought an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and installed it fine with drivers working in Windows and Linux. However, the next day faint, green, lines of dots began appearing on the screen. Also, when X is not running, there are odd characters on the screen. The display has many imperfections even when the BIOS screen is up.

Does this sound like a defective video card or a BIOS/driver problem? It worked yesterday, I left the computer on overnight and today I can't get these imperfections to disappear.

If even the bios screen does not display right, you have an issue with the card. You need to get it replaced.

Two things to check first:
I have on some occcassion seen cards not pushed the whole way in cause this issue.
I have also seen bad monitor(both VGA and DVI) cables cause it.

Thanks for the reply. The guy at the shop confirmed that it was indeed, defective.
