Parallel port Canon scanner

Hi Everybody,

Probably not going to get anywhere with this, but here goes. I am trying to get a Canon parallel port scanner (N640Pex) to work in FC4. demesg shows all the right things (parport detected, parport at 0x378, etc..) lsmod shows the module as loaded. I downloaded the stand-alone drivers (including libieee1284 as required.) I have read the sane HOWTO page on parallel port scanners through and through, which states that the scanner I have is supported with good results using this driver.

However, scanimage: no SANE scanners found
sane-find-scanner -p: no scanners found
scanimage -L: no scanners found.

Is there a way to test the parallel port or anyone with any other ideas I have not tried. Searches on this forum reveals very little. The scanner works fine in windows, but I AM NOW A LINUX ONLY user.

Any thoughts very much appreciated.

Bob

There is a file in "etc/sane.d" called "dll.conf". Uncomment the backend your scanner uses. then do <dpkg-reconfigure sane>
