optical usb-mouse strange?

Hey guys.

I have a little problem. i have an optical USB-mouse (microsoft) which won't quite work with my new kernel. first when i tried to compile my whole 2.6.7-kernel with usb support and mouse support and all that it didn't react at all when starting x. then i tried to make usbhid and ohci_hcd as modules and now the mouse reacts and so but when i move it around it automatically moves to the upper parts of the screen and refuses to move as i wish, nor does the buttons seem to work as they should

am i missing something obvious? anything else i should compile as a module? i'm not the best at this so i'm asking you guys :)
or is there even a way to "calibrate" the mouse?

thankful for help!

Hi - it's most probably an issue with your X configuration rather than the kernel. The settings you need are different from the 2.4 series kernels, so the point-and-click configuration may be letting you down.. Look for the mouse configuration bits in /etc/X11/XF86Config and make sure you have just one nouse entry. Also, set the protocol to 'PS/2' or 'IMPS/2' and see if that makes it behave.

A documentation link: http://www.xfree86.org/current/mouse.4.html
