Use a usb optical mouse

I know this has probably been asked before but how do I get my USB optical mouse working? Running debian

I don't have any problems with it. There should be no difference between an optical of an normal mouse. If it doens't work you can try to use a usb to PS2 converter for a mouse or keyboard.

Did you try using the generic driver. I have my Microsoft Intellimouse Optical using the Generic 3 Button Mouse (USB) driver. It works fine, but you can't use the two extra buttons on the side. But hey, since Microsoft is very unlikely to release a Linux driver for their products, I guess I just have to live with it.

Its a Microsoft Mouse alright but it didnt cost me too much :-)
I'm a bit of a n00bie to linux as you can probably tell, but previously I never had any problems with using it. However, i recently reformatted my hard disk after a bad encounter with Partition Magic and now it doesnt seem to be getting detected or something.
