Nvidia audio not working.

earlier today I installed the Nforce drivers after recompiling my kernel, I rebooted after enabeling the hotplug scripts on startup, and was able to use my audio, it sounded quite nice and i listed to both the CLI program 'amp' and I used XMMS. now, a few hours later, after installing quake 3, it didnt work, it doesnt even work with amp or xmms, it just gives the error "** WARNING **: oss_open(): Failed to open audio device (/dev/dsp): Device or resource buisy"

does anybody know what this could mean?

ps. this was the first time I installed the drivers since i got my new hard drive, but in my previous instalation it worked flawlessly.

Two questions:

What kernel are you using?

What audio chip do you have on your motherboard?

I'm on a 2.4.22 kernel (I know its old, but its the most recent kernel supported by the OpenMosix patch)

I dont know the exact chipset, but its the onboard audio for my Nforce 2 board, and it uses the 'nvaudio' driver according to lsmod.

A new discovery; My audio works when I reboot, but it will stop working untill the next reboot when I start quake 3.
