Im new to Linux as of 5 hours ago. I installed Fedora Core 1. It recognised my Nvidea G force 2 mx 400 card, but there does not seem to be hardware acceleration. Do I need to download and install linux version drivers for this? If so, Where can i get them and How do i do it?
Also, KPPP does not seem to know my modem. I have tried all of the settings that are the same as what windows would call COM Ports, an most of them either say my modem is busy or or unable to open. I decide perhaps i needed a driver. Searching the Net I found and downloaded this Beta driver:
( The modem is a Conexant softk56 HSF (Churchill) )
hsflinmodem-5.03.27inxtbeta03042700-1.fdr.src
This version according to the website is a modified version. It ha been modified to work with Fedora. The file it was modified from, had a rpm extention.
I have moved this to my home folder, and double clicked on it. It didn't work. I clicked on it because someone told me the rpm installer package is similar to an exe file. I knowthere is a way to do this by typing in commands, however, no one has told me where the - dos window is so to speak or how to navigate in the system. I have tried to find a C drive well, no luck. When I hooked up a slave drive, I can not find any program that does the work of Explorer to show me a D drive. I had to burn the driver on a cd just to get it into the linux machine. (emachines 1.80 ghz processor, 380 MB DDR Ram, Phoenix bios)
Can someone please fill me in on what Im missing here? I purchased a book with the CD's but I cannot find anyplace where it covers typing in console commands of this nature. Just telling me to type SU and my password wont help me. I need more exact instructions to even understand what im doing an why.
Please only respond to this if you had this modem and Fedora, and found a way to solve the problem. I cannot buy a new modem. This system is less than a year old and i cannot afford it, nor can i afford the 14 dollars to purchase the driver from Linuxtant.
Thanks John
