Ugh, I just finished a one hour email about this VERY SAME THING so I am not going to get into all the details like I did just a second ago.
I'm just going to state the problem, and the question I need answered that is based on the problem.
Problem:
I refuse to pay Linuxant for a conexant (linux) driver. I want a free one but I am having the HARDEST time trying to find ANY other competitors to Linuxant.
I don't know/can't find anywhere else to get a linux hsf & hcf conexant modem driver.
Question:
1. Where can I download a Conexant HCF & HSF Modem Driver for Knoppix-Linux?
Modem Identifier Tool Results:
<Linuxant has a nifty little tool that gets the information about your modem so you'll know if you need a HCF or HSF type driver. I really don't know if this can help anyone, help me, but I'll post it just to be sure.>

Thanks to anyone who helps in whatever way they can.
Man, I really dont want to get into details with it. Lets just leave it as simple as I have it.
I dont want to buy the drivers, simple. I could care less if they are $14.99 or not. If I used linux/knoppix more than I do, I might buy them. But since I don't, I won't.
I know there are drivers that I am looking for out there. In fact, there was a thread in another forum on this site that listed them! It seems some jackass removed them from the place they were being stored.
So if anyone can help, again, I give my thanks.
[If you cant answer the questions, dont. I'm not buying drivers, so please dont suggest it. If you can answer my question, then post away. If you're just here to give your two cents, I dont have the time.]
a purchase of linuxant drivers, the cost is minimal, like what? 13 USD?
why not support these guys who are providing much needed winmodem drivers?
i don't know if you remember, but in the past, with winmodems, you were pretty much SOL when it came to drivers in Linux.
nowadays, if you run the util scanmodem.gz at linmodems.org you will almost certainly find a driver that works, not like the past.
This is an old post but I've got to reply. I really don't give a fuck. I spent nearly 20 years writing code for Linux. Just like a thousand other programmers. I never charged a dime for anything I contributed. Neither did anybody else that I respect. The way I see it is Linux is "Free" Software. I paid my dues. I will never pay anyone for a Linux driver and anyone who demands payment for a Linux driver is nothing more than a thief. So your theory that "the cost is minimal" is bullshit. I know for a fact, by your comment, that you never contributed anything to the Linux project. You never wrote any code. You're just an asshole, who claims to be an expert. Linux is not merely software. It's a principal.
