Not detecting the ATAPI CD with the Intel DP965LT Motherboard

I tried to install LINUX on a Intel DP965LT Motherboard, but LINUX isn't detecting the ATAPI CD Drive. I tried to use it as master, slave, with or without SATA Disk it but was never seen by LINUX. I am using the Slackware 11 Distribuition (last one).

If the original poster hasn't gone completely away yet.....................the 965 chipset would likely have the ICH8 southbridge chip and the Jmicron controller.
The Jmicron drivers were the hold up for me on a similar M/B with the Intel 965 chipset, but using the same distro (Slack 11).
Use the test26.s kernel - it's the only one with Jmicron drivers, and there will be no boot up without them, no matter what distro.
Vanilla kernels 2.6.19 and later have them if someone wanted to compile their own.
