Unhappy no sound from AverTV card

I have an Ubuntu Breezy Badger (ver 5.10, 2.6.12 kernel version). I also have an AverTV GO 007 card connected to my VCR (by two cables s-video and rca-audio). I can see in xawtv and mplayer good TV picture (in tvtime i see in black and white for some reason), but I have no sound.
Is there any way that you can help me to get a sound from the TV card?

I will be much obliged for any assitance.
Ben

Here is some information on my system.
