[root@localhost emu10k1]# modprobe emu10k1
/lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
modprobe: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/kernel/drivers/sound/emu10k1/emu10k1.o.gz failed
modprobe: insmod emu10k1 failed

that is what i get when i try.

Its kinda hard to package newer versions of drivers as RPMs as its a kernel module... and one of the obnoxious things RedHat does is have the up2date utility upgrade your kernel periodically AND also they compile their kernels with kernel module version symboling so its hard to forcefeed the kernel a module that wasn't built specifically against that exact kernel.

So... for the most part, RPMs of drivers are pretty rare.

The source code is rather easy to find. The Audigy 2 is just another emu10k1.o driven card, but rh 7.3 means kernel 2.4.18, which is a year and a half old and that version of the driver doesn't properly support the Audigy 2. There are a couple things you can do:

Compile the driver from source: http://sourceforge.net/projects/emu10k1/

Upgrade kernels by hand, 2.4.21 will be out in a few days and its version of the emu10k1 can handle the card.

Compile ALSA, its the external to the kernel set of modules, it covers the card, arguably better then the stock kernel module.

Cheers,

Finegan
