nm256av CD audio issue
I'm running on a still rather default install of SuSE 8.2 on my laptop (Dell Latitude CPi A400XT) and have a rather weird issue with CD audio. Sound chip is the NeoMagic NM256AV.
Using any assortment of CD player, from cdplay to KsCD, I get no audio from CD at all. Using XMMS, if I choose digital output of CD audio, I get CD audio, but it's choppy to the point of not being playable. If I go back to playing directly from CD, then sound drops. Aumix shows all channels unmuted and (except Master) at Max.
All other aspects of the soundcard work. Playing any other sound type I can think of (wav, mp3, ogg, mid, mod, it, xm, etc) works just fine. Ripping to ogg works fine (though I don't think it really touches on the soundcard at all anyway). I'd rip everything, but I'm limited on space.
Any ideas of how I could fix this issue so I could actually play CD's on my laptop? If you need config files, or anything else, let me know and I will provide. This is rather strage as I've never had this problem in the past.
