nforce 2 oboard nic problem (redhat 9)

I've just installed Redhat 9 on my machine because I'm trying to learn Linux (got some cbt nuggets to help me along the way) and I've run into a problem. I have a abit nf7 board with the nforce 2 chipset and a onboard nic. after the OS installs, I try to connect to the internet and get a site can't be found error. I then go to main menu>system preferences>network click the hardware tab, and see that my nic isn't listed. I download the chipset drivers rpm from nvidia, double clicked it to install, and it seems to have installed ok. i then restart the pc, and try to connect to the net again and receive the same error as before. i check the hardware tab and a nic with the name nvnet is listed, but no resources are configured for it. I tried configuring the resources for it manually, but honestly I've never had to configure resources before. I know about IRQ's, I/O addresses, etc, but I've never acutally done it before. i can ping the loopback address, but nothing else. i also tried installing the rpm using the rpm -i filename.rpm command and it says the package is already installed. but when i use the rpm -e filename.rpm or the rpm -q filename.rpm command it says the package is not installed. I'm extremely new when it comes to linux, and have had nothing but headaches using it thus far. i'm not planning on giving up yet tho; any help would really be appreciated.

here's the specs for the machine that it's on:

Athlon XP 2500+
Abit NF7 Rev 2.0
1GB PC3200
80GB (10GB partitioned for RH9)
SB Audigy
9800 Pro
4X DVD-RW/52X CD-RW
*Multi-boots with XP Pro and Win2k Server*

thanks in advance

first, if you want to erase something you use "rpm -e filename" without the .rpm part.
second, you could use "rpm -qa | grep filename" to check wether the file was installed.
third, i don't really understand what you mean by "need to configure resource."
please post the window or something i could see to point it out. say post the image on a website.

i had asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo, same chipset. after i compile the .rpm. everything works great. if you can see the nvnet driver in your device list. then you just have to make a connection.

when I use the rpm -e filename command, i get the same error i get when i use the rpm -e filename.rpm command (filename.rpm not installed). when i use the rpm -qa | grep filename command, nothing happens. when i add .rpm to the same command, again nothing happens.

when i say i need to configure the resources, i mean i need to config the irq, I/o address and dma, the nic wasnt recognized automatically. i added a connection to it the nic, and got a error saying the nic didnt initialize (cause of no irq, dma, and i/o being set).

thanks
