newbie question re: IT8212 controller
Total newbie.
I am trying to install linux to a extra hard drive attached to a IT8212 RAID controller. I have read that the kernel supports this chip. Running live CDs of knoppix and ubuntu, neither one can see the drive. The ubuntu installer also cannot see the drive.
This could be a bios problem, as I cannot get the drive to appear in CMOS but XP can use the drive just fine. I have tried all bios settings (bios updated F13), and RAID setup.
Is this a bios or linux problem?
Is there a better distro to try for this, or way to load these to recognize the drive?
Hardware:
Gigabyte 8KNXP rev 1.0
controller hookups:
IDE1 m/s: XP (boot) / no slave
IDE2 m/s: DVD/ DVD burner
IDE3 m/s: *WD drive, cable select, no slave
-this is where I want to install, controlled by IT8212
IDE4 m/s: none
Thanks for any help
