Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Thank you all for all that very interesting information.. The morality appears to be that my basic hardware knowledge may have been OK ten fifteen years ago but is insufficient now and that it is now necessary for someone like myself to seek your advice first.

I have to agree with kilgoretrout here- Corsair quality depends on what you get. Same with Enermax.

Without spending ages trying to find some decent reviews on the current Enermax range, I'd guess that I this is the order I would pick them in (cost not withstanding)-

Corsair by Seasonic.
Enermax by Enermax.
Corsair by Channel Well.
Enermax by Channel Well.

Yep, and that is why I'd take the Corsair by Channel Well over Enermax by Channel Well. Corsair have always been really good on warranty in my experience.

If I had more money I'd be doing that as well. The Seasonic built Corsair PSU I have has been the best PSU I've ever owned and has done some impressive stuff.

Like when where I was living was getting brownouts often. Several times a different system with a lesser PSU (Thermaltake in this case) would just go dead on brownouts when the system with the Corsair by Seasonic would pause and/or blink and just keep running....

But the Seasonic units aren't cheap and some of my clients are. I am as well at times, hence the Corsair CX430 I got for my now dead media box.

link is also useful. It shows my PSU in the tier-2 category.
Back 'in the day' PC Power and Cooling were by reputation the best PSUs I've heard of, but I've never seen one 'in the metal'. They were sold to OCZ (back in 2007? I think) and became just another brand name and are from what I've seen and heard are not as good as Seasonic these days.

By the way the only place that does that 'PSU tiers' thing is toms hardware and seems to be almost pointless. I've never been overly fond of toms so maybe its just my bias.

Dont be so hard on yourself

There are some real hardware anoraks here. While some of us can crap on about PSUs etc. for hours, the hardware you picked seems fine. Sure there was that video card thing but really that was a super easy mistake to make. To be honest your experience with the video issue has actually left me unimpressed with how AMD has handled onboard video with the new systems.
