I am going to buy a new motherboard AMD`s AM2 or 939 sokket, and i am going to run both Windows and Linux on it.
Does anybody have a good sugjestion for me in terms of what board i should buy?
I recently bought the Gigabyte GA-M55plus-S3G and I'm happy with it. I only run Linux, but I had no problems wverything worked out of the box. It's an AM2 board, but I suspect the 939 will be phased out in favor of the AM2. I wouldn't buy a socket 939 board today because of obsolesence.

This board's southbridge is nforce430. Is network and sound okay? I heard ethernet interface needed some module called "forcedeth". I've seen it in the kernel menu, but it's labeled "EXPERIMENTAL". Any problem with that?
And.. is your hard drive sata2? Is it possible to install a linux distribution on it without the need of an ATA drive?
The network works fine and the sound is okay. The input has failed to work properly in both Kubuntu and windows. I also tried the windows with 2 different headsets, so I believe I accidently shorted it out during the install. No, my HDD is not sata 2, but soon enough I will get one(had my teacher order it with school funds, so it may take a while) so I can tell you then. As far as the experimental network, my net worked out of the bbox with kubuntu dapper AMD64. And about not needing an ATA ddrive, I couldn't say I know, you will need advice from another member about that. Also, Nvidia has the best linux support for both their chipsets and their GPU's so i recommend them. However, you won't be able to install the nvidia drivers within a GUI, assuming they are not in your distro's repositories. I can confirm that both the ATI drivers and the Nvidia drivers are in the (x/K)ubuntu repositories. i hope you found this helpful.
Here we're considering getting a new AM2 motherboard with nforce5 chipset, so I think the only problem we may have is related with sata2 (if any).
No problem about installing nvidia graphics driver in text mode.
And I hope Ubuntu (or Kubuntu) 32-bits version works fine too, because although 64-bits are ok, there are some propietary apps here which wouldn't work with other version than 32 bit.
