Yes Fedora Core 4 supports the common sata controllers but it does not see them from the anaconda installer. After it is installed sata modules are installed. There are a couple ways around this.
On some motherboards one can set the sata channel to pata mode or an old ide emulation mode. Not all do this. Once installed reset bios back to sata mode.
The other way I did it little over a year ago was to install a standard IDE drive. Install FC4 to the drive. Shutdown and reinstalled the sata with the IDE drive. Then using a Live CD like knoppix or the system rescue cd
http://freshmeat.net/projects/systemrescuecd/ I copied the partitions from the IDE to SATA drive. Quick reload of grub on the MBR of the sata drive and I was off an running.
I believe knoppix and ubuntu offer sata support during the install. Any of which can do a simply web server.
