new monitor

Hi, my monitor up and died. Luckily (or not) I had another one. I performed the switch but now when I start up RH9 my screen is unreadable.
I guess the refresh rate is wrong or something similar.
Problem is I can't boot to tell Linux how to change it.
I looked around (from another machine) but didn't find anything obvious in the threads here. So sorry if this has been asked before:
how do I get going? I guess:

- I need to restart in SAFe mode (of some sort)
- I need to tell X about the new monitor
- reboot

I have another machine (W2K) on the same netrwork and can access the Linux box using Exceed.

Sure you can.

Boot it up, hit <Control><Alt><F2> and log in as root. Next run your Xfree config utility (whatever it is with RH).

I would also recommend editing your inittab file so that you don't try to start your GUI when you boot up.

Excellent!
I got into text mode with C-Alt-F2 and reconfigured with (FYI)

redhat-config-xfree86

Thanks a lot.
