Unhappy Need help with SmartLink dial-up modem install please...


Hi...

I just installed Lubuntu 14.04 and while I installed the "sl-modem-daemon" and dkms packages, I cannot get wvdial or GnomePPP to interact with the modem in any way. I ran a command (that I can't remember exactly what it was) that created a symlink to /dev/ttySL0, however, this file was never created and I don't know how you do. According to lsmod, the modules "slamr" and "ungrab_winmodem" are being loaded...

What needs to be done here to get the modem seen and up and running? I've spent the last couple hours looking on the web for anything that could help solve this problem but I've not seen anything that is helpful or identical to my problem.

A few years ago I had the same problem on a Kubuntu install so if anyone could use any information from that, the thread is here...
