Question Need help getting a D-Link WDA 2320 card to work.

I've tried this card in PCLinuxOS (an older version). Mepis 12, Lubuntu, and Mageia. I get the error
Code:
Unable to find network interface for selected device (using ath5k driver)
I've spent some hours on this and finally decided I need to ask the experts.
How can I get this thing up and working?

Thanks kindly.

Not enough information...

You need to post exactly how you tried to make a connection and what other error messages there were. Are you using "ifup" or NetworkManager applet?

I assume that you see the correct modules loaded when you use the command "lsmod" Do you see your router SSID when you use the command "iwlist wlan0 scan"?

Why not download and boot the latest version of PCLinuxOS or Mint to see what happens.

A Mint live-DVD is often good at finding and setting up wireless devices and then offering a pop-up for a connection. You should see your router SSID on a list of available connections.

If not, try the command "iwconfig" to find your device, then "ifconfig wlanO up". That should give you access to the available signals.

Some command outputs you can submit in your next post (insert readouts in code tags, it is the # tab in advanced reply toolbar.

If mint.

Code:
mintwifi
other commands for other distros.

Code:
lspci -knn
Code:
ip addr show
Code:
ip link show
Code:
ifconfig -a

This will help others to help you.

also

Code:
cat /etc/issue
and

Code:
uname -a
Happy Trails, Rok

Edit: a

Code:
sudo dmseg | tail
readout will help your cause also. All commands must be done with the pcmcia or pci card inserted and booted up from a cold boot.

Hmmm, the card seems to be working! It is showing no networks but there are none. I also get a graph showing 0 upload and 0 download which makes sense.

Thanks for the assistance!

Well 1 thing is that the user hasn't been added to sudoers file, do you know the root password?

su, suso, or root...

You need root privileges to use commands in making a connection. Have you used su or sudo, whichever Mageia uses? You may have to log-in as root.

Again, is Mageia set up to use "ifup" or are you using the NetworkManager package with an applet?

If you're not using "ifup", there are no valid commands for it, which seems to say you are using NetworkManager. However, you then also need the applet package installed.

Can you see an SSID list of possible connections, just not your own?

In my openSUSE 13.1 installation I seem to have to configure my wireless under "ifup", but then can change to managing it with NetworkManager.

Mageia uses su and won't let you log in as root although that may be changeable.

I was/am using network manager. I removed the wifi card today but I'll put it back in and try the other things you suggested.

I'm happy that the computer is seeing the card but a little concerned it is seeing absolutely no signals, but it's likely there are no signals to be seen. I can test that by connecting my router.

You don't need to log in as root, open terminal & type

& you are root
