Need a little expert help using multihead displays with different resolutions.


Hi all...

I'm running OpenSUSE 10.0 with the 2.6.13-15.7-smp kernel. The hardware I'm trying to configure is as follows...

1 x PCI-X GeForce 6600GT
1 x PCI GeForce 5500FX
1 x Gateway FPD2185W (21" LCD wide screen, 1680x1050 native)
2 x Gateway FPD1775 (17" LCD, 1280x1024 native)

The 21" monitor is in the center connected to the DVI port of the 6600GT. The 17" monitors are on either side of the 21" monitor and are both connected to the 5500FX.

NVidia driver version is 1.0-8178.

I've got all three monitors working and setup using Xinerama, so I can drag stuff around between all the screens. The center monitors resolution is incorrect however (The Configure-Desktop panel says 1440x1024)...not sure if it's because it doesn't match the resolution of the two outside monitors, or if there's something configured incorrectly in my xorg.conf file (which I've posted below). The top of the screen is also higher than what can bee seen so I have to push the mouse to the top edge to scroll the screen up. I would like it to be it's native resolution of 1680x1050@75Hz.

I also have a question about the "Modes" section used by the big monitor. It was generated by SaX2 in another xorg.conf file I had...so I just pasted it into the new file. If someone could better explain what all those numbers represent, maybe I can figure out why the center monitor is not getting it's correct resolution?

I will also paste the Xorg.0.log in a second post to keep this one from getting too long.

Figured it out...

I found the correct modelines for the 1680x1050 resolution on the center monitor. Plugged those into xorg.conf and now it all looks and works great.
