Question multihead + X + Console

Hello,
I have a multi-headed system, for which I've configured X to only use one monitor. On the other monitor I'd like to run a console.

This works, and I can switch between them with Ctrl+Alt+Fx...

The problem is that, when I switch, the other monitor goes blank.

I've searched all over for a solution to this, so you're my only hope!

Things I have already tried:
  • XF86Config-4 (all options)
  • setterm (all options)
  • xset -dpms
