Mp3 player mounting problem

Hello everybody!

I have a problem with my mp3 player.
You know, it can function as an usb flash drive.
But this one can operate as a SD/MMC card reader too.
I have a 1 Gb MMC card.
But when i connect it to my computer under linux,
the penguin just can't see the card.
Usually the system mounts /dev/sda1 to /mnt/whatever,
but this is the mp3 player's internal memory.
I have tried to mount /dev/sda2 or /dev/uba2, but
it is not a valid block device.
I think i should use some parameters while loading some
kernel modules for the usb system.

(Ohh, and the mp3 player is:
Kingbyte Music Drive Deluxe v2.0)

Under win xp, it's no problem at all.
It create 2 drives, one for the internal memory,
and one for the MMC card.

At the end, here is the "Linux section" of the user
guide of the player:

" G.4 Linux Kernel 2.4.0 or above
Linux uses a so-called “USB Manager”, which does automatically
load drivers for USB devices. By default, the USB Manager does
not come with the USB drive pre-configured. However, you can
easily configure it to automatically recognize the USB drive by
yourself.
Just add the following line into the configuration file, usbmgr.conf
(usually in /etc/usbmgr):vendor 0xd7d product 0x100 module
scsi_mod, usb-storage
This line identifies the USB drive and tells the USB Manager to load
the SCSI as well as the USB storage module. The SCSI module is
needed in order to talk to both SCSI and USB storage devices, while
the use-storage module is needed to talk to USB storage devices.
Do not forget to either reload the USB Manager’s configuration or to
restart the USB Manager (eg. Do it as “root: /etc/init.d/usbmgr
reload”). "

You say that the player's memory comes up as /dev/sda, so I very much
doubt that the mmc card will come up on the same device! (ie. sda2)
Perhaps you could try:
#fdisk -l /dev/sda
#fdisk -l /dev/sdb
#fdisk -l /dev/sdc
#fdisk -l /dev/sdd
... until you strike gold!

You may even find your syslog mentions the device-node names when you plug the player in (if not I'm sure you could turn a few debug options on for sanity)

Good luck.

Re: Mp3 player mounting problem

I had the same problem with Linux Fedora Core 3 and it's solved.
Add this line to /etc/modprobe.conf :
options scsi_mod max_luns=8
then reboot.
(I just follow from http://www.aem.umn.edu/people/faculty/shield/fc.html)
My MP3 player+SD/MMC card reader (Netac Mustik C670) can now be mounted
from /dev/sda1 (for internal memory) and /dev/sdb1 (for SD/MMC card).

Hope it helps.
