iRiver iHP-100 freezes computer

Hey there. I am fairly new to linux and don't know a lot about any of the fancy lingo you cool guys might use. I just upgraded to Mandrake 10.1 final edition from mandrake 10.0 community edition. My problem is that when I try to mount my mp3 player it freezes up konqueror. my mp3 player is 40GB so basically it is just looked at like a usb hard-rive. In Mandrake 10.0 I just plugged it in and didn't have any problems. Sometimes it doesn't mount at all and konqueror works, but then the "configure my computer" application doesn't. It just freezes up and I have to restart the computer. Any advice would be great guys. Oh by the way it is mounted as an SDA drive under /mnt/removable

Weird problem. What does dmseg look like right after this happens? (I believe KDE has a way to find that, probably something called "Kernel log" or something)

PS: you should've chosen a more descriptive for your thread, my first reacton was just to type SEARCH since there's about a thousand threads with the same title.

Thanks for the advice on the the title of the thread. You are right it isn't very discriptive at all. Well this time I plugged the thing in and konqueror didn't freeze and neither did the "configure my computer" application. I went into hardware and found the mp3 player listed under unknown/others category. If I click on parameters it says NONE. What should I do now? I looked it up under mount points and where it used to show up as an sda drive, now it doesn't show up at all. Thanks for all of your help.

Okay some new news. I logged in under root just for giggles to see if it would work and everything seemed to work perfectly. I could go under konqueror and play all of my music files and nothing froze not even the "configure my computer" application. I think the problem has to do with permissions. I know absolutely nothing about setting up permissions on something like this. I am in the dark here. Thanks for your replies
