Mouse Problems

Hello,

I am using SuSE Professional 9.3. Sometimes, suddenly my mouse stops working. To get it back to work again, I have to restart the system. My mouse is a Microsoft USB Intelli Mouse. What could be the reason to that?

How can I fix this problem without restarting the system?

I have a laptop and it also has a touchpad. Could it be causing problems? But the touchpad isn't working either. Neither both the same time, nor when my USB Mouse stops working.

Waiting for your suggestions...

Oh btw, it just stopped working again... :s

Your mouse hangs can be caused for many reasons, maybe a problem with X, maybe a problem with modules in the kernel, maybe a usb-related problem, maybe...

The next time the mouse stops working try killing X with Control+Alt+Backspace or by any other way like typing killall X (maybe killall XFree86 or killall Xorg) as root in a console and then start it again with startx (i donīt use suse but probably it is done automatically).

I don't know if the touchpad can be causing problems but I also have a usb mouse and a touchpad in my laptop both working at the same time and without problems.

Try this and then post the result.

Not got much of an idea, but for extra diagnosis try dmesg and then replugging it in (and dmesg again).
