Monitor Resolution issue

I just installed Ubuntu Studio 9.04, 32-bit, on a brand new machine. Everything works fine, except the resolution is very awkward. I have an Acer X233H 23" Flat Panel monitor, but the system is only utilizing about 15 inches of that space. I'd really like to use the full 23" (who wouldn't?). I figured it might be a driver issue with the monitor? But Acer doesn't have any drivers for anything other than Windows Vista and XP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. I searched through the forums, but didn't really find anything that matched my situation. But if there is a fix somewhere in the other forums that I overlooked, please shoot me the link.

EDIT: I'm using the monitor through DVI connections on an NVIDIA GeForce 9300/nForce 730i (on-board an ASUS motherboard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131348)

A monitor doesn't require a driver in Linux.
Setting it up as "Generic Flat Panel" will usually do.

But Ubuntu isn't always very good at creating a proper
set up with tricky monitors.

First thing to do :
Menu, System > Administration > Software Sources :
Take care that 'Proprietary drivers ..' are included.

As said by mchenier :
> System > Administration > Hardware drivers :
Look for "Nvidia 180 ..'

Or just do :
sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-180 nvidia-settings
( or use synaptics )

cd /etc/X11/
sudo mkdir backup
sudo cp xorg.config backup/
... And now you can run : sudo nvidia-xconfig
... Next : log out to see, how it works.
May be change resolution with : sudo nvidia-settings
.....
Let us know, how it worked out so far ... good luck !
.....
