A dual monitor resolution issue with games

I am having some strange issues with my dual head setup and certain games. I have a successful dual monitor setup, but most of my programs want to treat it as a 2048x768 resolution. On programs like Xine or Mozilla, its no big deal, but on Neverwinter Nights, it spreads the game entirely across both monitors. I have verified that this is simply something about the game that I can't really fix, so I need a way to boot X with kde with only one monitor. The best I can figure is to write a script that will switch out my xorg.conf files when I execute the game from the command line, but a script like that would require root access, and I'd like to avoid that. I know it is possible to execute xinit with a switch that would use a different xorg.conf, but when I do that, I simply get a mouse cursor, but no functionality. Anyone have any advice?

Check the game setup, preferences, and configs. Do you find anything about screen geometry (screen size). If so, try decreasing the screen width by half. It may work and keep it on one screen. On the other hand, it may center it between the two (half on one screen, half on the other). It that case, try setting the geometry coordinates to start at top mid-screen instead of at the top left. That should move it to the right-hand screen.

I've done all that, it doesn't work. I just need a way to start x with a xorg.conf configured to use only one monitor from a script that will start the game, that way I don't have to switch out config files every time I want to play.
