Modem detection problem

I'm using PClinuxos (which is terrific). I have installed the drivers for my Intel536ep modem and it works.

Problem: The system will not recognize the connection even though it's there. No webpages, no e-mail, nothing, even though the modem is working and the connection with my ISP is active.

Please help me.

What kind of modem is it?
How did you make the connection without modem recognition?

It's an Intel 536ep softmodem with linux drivers.

KPPP dialer has been set to use the modem. It detects the modem, establishes connection, it's all fine and good, I even used a terminal command to test connection throughput and the darn things says it's sending and receiving packets...

but firefox nor thunderbird will use the connection
