Miracast dongle

Hi, can anyone confirm, or otherwise, if a Miracast dongle will work with a Linux Mint 18 desktop PC. I'm wanting to stream to our LG smart TV which I know supports Miracast. Thanks in anticipation.

Hello and welcome to LQ.

I've never tried it so I was hoping someone else may know. Seems there is some work on it. https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/openwfd/ claims they are working on it.

http://www.nxp.com/products/software...CAST-FOR-LINUX has it for their unique line.

I'd think that https://01.org/wds has some progress.

In truth I'd think it won't be easy or practical for a user to assume they can get it to work right now.

If Miracast doesn't work for you try these:

thanks for the replies and links guys. The lack of Miracast dongles for Linux OS seems a bit odd being as most of the dongles I've looked at use Linux themselves !!

You're Welcome.

Does the Miracast dongle work with your Linux install?

I don't have a dongle, hence the original question

Until your post I have never heard of Miracast.

It's probably a good idea to go with TP-link or the other well known wifi dongles for Linux.

Maybe reading through all of these searches will provide evidence that Miracast works with Linux.
