So I'm running Ubuntu 5.04 fresh install and I'm having a probolem. I have a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0 that I got with the Wireless Optical Desktop Comfort Edition, the keyboard works just fine but the mouse is acting odd. I can move the mouse around just fine but my probolem is the clicking functions. Forinstance when I hover over an icon and than move the mouse it trys to drag the icon, or when I highlight some text and then try to left click a text field it pasts the text into that field, also I think that ubuntu uses xorg but when I use the Knoppix 4.0 dvd (which I think uses xfree86) it works fine. If their is any more info you need pleas reply.

I had the same problem, it was weird. I set my bios to handle the mouse and keyboard as it had the option to instead of the OS and that seemed to fix it for me....

How do I do that?

Whats the model and make of your computer?

It's a compaq, i'm not sure what model it is but i'ts kind of old like 650mhz cpu and like some purple plastic trim. Sory but the little plate with the model number broke off a long time ago.

As you turn on your pc you need to press F2 as the Compaq logo displays. You should then be able to see if your machine has this option.

If it works in Knoppix, copy the Knoppix /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file or the relevent xorg.cfg file to your a temproary place on your hard drive and compare it to the active X config file on your system. Look for differences in the way the input section for the mouse is set up. You could even back up your existing config file and then put the Knoppix file into your system to try as-is. This has worked for me in the past with weird X problems. I often use Knoppix to trouble-shoot and compare config files.
