Microsoft keyboard and mouse will not work

I have a microsoft intellipoint wireless optical mouse 2.0 and a microsoft wireless comfort keyboard 1.0 and I do not know how I can get them to work. I am running ubuntu 5.10, and I am new at linux so I might need step by step instructions

How exactly do they not work? You can't even type anything, or you can't just use some (or all) of the extra keys and the side buttons on the mouse?

How do you connect the devices to your computer? The mouse/keyboard combo should have the USB and PS/2 inputs. You probably need to plug in both. That's what I need to do to get my own mouse/keyboard to work with Fedora Core. BTW, I have the exact same mouse and keyboard that you do - a Wireless IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0 and a Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1.0.

What exactly do you mean by "getting it to work"? Can you not type or click at all, or do you just want to be able to use those extra keys on the keyboard and the back/forward buttons on the mouse?

Which distro are you using?
