Problem with Microsoft wireless keyboard & Mouse

hi, im having problem installing linux on my system.
here is what happens:
  1. i put the cd in and boot the system
  2. setup loads - everythings fine
  3. HELLLLLL - When i move the mouse it starts to jump about on the screen in random directions, most of the keyboard entries are not recognized e.g. i press Left arrow it says "unknown key" or something like that.

so far i have tried the following distributions: SUSE 10.0 64bit, SUSE 9.1, Debian, Yops.

Keyboard functions correctly with SUSE 10.0 64bit but mouse is the same.

my system spec:
  • K/B: Microsoft Wireless comfort keyboard
  • Mouse: Microsoft Wireless optical version 2.0A
  • CPU: P4 630 3.0 GHZ 64bit
  • RAM: 1GB
  • M/B: Asus p5gd1
  • HDD: 80GB SATA
  • G/C: ATI X600
currently running Win XP pro, everything works fine.

Please help i WANT to get rid of Microsoft S*** ASAP.

thanks

Sounds to me like you chose the wrong keymap... ususally it will ask you which keymap you want to use on boot. As for the mouse, I think you have it set to the wrong protocol, I'm not sure which protocol your mouse uses, but most mice today are PS/2. If it's set to that and its not working, try the Microsoft protocol "Microsoft", sence it's a Microsoft mouse, it can be set in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (look for the mouse section).

I tried what you said, still same.

now i have two choice
1. give up on linux and stick to windows
2. take the Mouse & K/B back to the shop and get a proper one

i think im going to bin the microsoft mouse & k/b, then install the linux
